Tour to Transylvania
Nataliya and Sophia from Black Mountain Barns invite you to join them for a week of yoga and adventure, exploring this beautiful and remote part of the world.
Between morning and evening yoga sessions there will be opportunities to spend your day either relaxing or joining any of the planned day trips: exploring the surrounding area, visiting local craft and food producers, enjoying beautiful walks through ancient beech forests, cooking on an open fire, visiting shepherds in the mountains, taking a horse and cart ride and taking in a local market or two.

The holiday will start when we meet in Lviv, a beautiful and historically fascinating city with wonderful museums and a beautiful opera house.
From there we travel to Nizhnie Selishche a charming remote farming village where we stay for the next seven days. there will be a morning yoga practise (suitable for all standards even if you have never done any yoga before and not compulsory) followed by a substantial breakfast to prepare you for the planned outing for the day.
When we return in the late afternoon you can either join in a very gentle and relaxing yoga practice or rest before dinner. On our last evening there will be a farewell party with Ukrainian traditional music and dancing and of course lots of toasting with the local wines and vodka!
We finish back in lviv where for a memorable last evening we dine at one of the best restaurants in town. On the last morning we have a private tour of the icon museum, followed by a delicious lunch at a charming family run restaurant specialising in Galacian cuisine and say our farewells.
Experienced local guides will be on hand throughout your stay to help ensure your holiday runs smoothly and is full of wonderful and unique experiences.

Detailed itinerary
​
Day 1
We will meet in Lviv before a trip into the village of Nyzhnie Selyshe.
​
​
On the way to the village of Nizhnie Selishche we will stop off at Mukachevo castle, a great grand citadel with a commanding view of the countryside, steeped in history as a bastion of Austro-Hungarian power.
Once in the picturesque village of Nizhnie Selische you will meet up with your hosts in the village, we will have relaxing and restorative yoga session
Later this day as you will enjoy a sumptuous dinner of freshly prepared local produce.

Day 2
In the morning after morning yoga session you can take time and explore the centre of the village, including the market and local cheese farm. The dairy produces cheeses of rare quality in small volume. There are in high demand among Europe’s most prestigious cheesemongers, so much so there is a yearlong waiting list. Here’s your chance to cut in line and buy cheese locally right at its source if you wish, after you sample some with a little wine in the aging room.
There are more culinary delights later, when you travel by horse and cart through the village and its meadows, up to visit the village herbalist. Try her gorgeous teas flavoured with the herbs she picks in meadows and hills, and the honey from her husband’s bees.
Back home for another restorative yoga session and delicious local dinner.
Day 3
After a picturesque stroll through the hills we will stop for lunch cooked over an open fire with local shepherds next to a volcanic lake.

Day 4
After relaxed morning of yoga, we will visit local produce market in Khust. We will stop in to a rustic wooden church. The church is a fine example of local artistry and craftsmanship, and features fine ornament and iconography.
Evening restorative yoga and dinner around the fire.
Day 5
Pack your walking boots for a mountain hike in the largest forest of ancient beech trees in Europe. This primeval forest enjoys UNESCO protection, as well as surprising rock formations and a truly unmissable view once you arrive at the peak!
On the way back from this trip we will stop in for lunch at a working water mill, where you can stop for a dip in the crystal clear waters, or even hop in the wooden ‘jacuzzi’ as the full force of the mill’s water is diverted into it, an experience bound to wake you up after a bountiful lunch!
Evening yoga session after hiking day is in order.
Day 6
Relaxing morning of yoga and walk around the village in the first part of the day.
We will have a craft workshop decorating eggs with hot beeswax using and ancient technique.
As this is our last day in Nizhnie Selishche we will have a farewell party with traditional Ukrainian music, food and dancing with the Hudaki Village Band.

Day 7
We will say good bye to our hosts in Nyzhnie Selyshe and will take a minibus back to Lviv stopping for a visit to Mukachevo castle for some delicious food on a way.
Welcoming dinner will wait for us in one of the best restaurants in Lviv.

Day 8
On the final day we visit an Icon Museum in Lviv and have a lunch in beautiful cafe that specialising in local galician cuisine.
This is the end of our tour.
