Introduction
Our journey begins in the charming village of Taroudant, often referred to as "Little Marrakech" due to its similar atmosphere, yet much more tranquil and authentic. Nestled in the heart of the Souss Valley, Taroudant is surrounded by ancient walls, bustling souks, and beautiful palm groves, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history and culture. This village exudes a rustic, timeless vibe, captivating visitors with its narrow streets filled with vibrant local crafts and fragrant spice markets. From here, we embark on an unforgettable journey through southern Morocco’s stunning landscapes and rich traditions.
Siroua: A Journey to the Origins of the Berber Rug
Our route leads us deep into the remote mountains of southern Morocco, where we’ll explore the Siroua region, home to the Aït Ouaouzguite tribe and the mesmerizing art of Berber rug weaving. This tradition, passed down from mother to daughter, is more than a craft — it’s an integral part of the local economy and culture. You’ll have the rare opportunity to witness the intricate weaving process firsthand, meeting artisans who patiently create these works of art.
As we traverse deserts, lunar landscapes, palm-filled oases, and lush green valleys, you’ll discover how this age-old skill is still thriving today.
Siroua: A Region of Beauty and Heritage
Nestled in the rugged mountains of the Anti-Atlas, Siroua is a region of breathtaking beauty and rich cultural heritage. Here, in the shadow of towering peaks, women from the Aït Ouaouzguite tribe craft carpets on vertical looms, using natural dyes and time-honoured techniques. These carpets are a visual expression of the tribe’s history and symbolism, with patterns reflecting ancient traditions passed down through generations.
Accompanying us on this journey will be Jamal Amrray, a native of the region with a passion for local culture, Jamal is an extraordinary mountain guide. He has been actively involved with “the Siroua Wool Project”, a local cooperative focused on improving wool production and quality. He has dedicated significant time and effort to supporting the cooperative’s development, particularly through collaboration with international professionals who provided specialized expertise and training. He will lead our group with his expertise and passion for the country’s natural beauty. Along the way, we’ll trek through valleys, visit Berber villages, and engage with local women who will share their weaving techniques, offering an authentic and immersive experience.
Marrakech: The Perfect Finale
As our journey draws to a close, we make our way to Marrakech, the "Red City" — a vibrant city known for its lively souks, historic medina, and iconic Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Marrakech offers the perfect contrast to the quiet, rustic beauty of Taroudant and the mountains. From bustling arkets to tranquil gardens, Marrakech is a fascinating blend of old and new, where ancient traditions and modern life coexist harmoniously.
This bustling city will provide a fitting conclusion to our adventure, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Morocco’s rich cultural tapestry.

It was amazing, we had such a wonderful time. The warm welcome from everyone we met, the scenery (with the added and unexpected bonus of all the wildflowers from recent rainfall after a long drought), the food 😍, the carpets and weaving and the souks. Just magical. Thank you!
