 LIZHNYK WEAVING and EMBROIDERY TOUR Textile Tour

A chance to live and learn alongside local families and craftspeople who love to share their knowledge and skills. On this tour you will learn the ancient tradition of Lizhnyk weaving and even create your own Carpathian wool blanket to take home.

Or you can choose embroidery workshops with one of the best embroiders in the area or ornamental wood carving.
You will stay with local family in small family run guest house  in a remote village in the beautiful Carpathian Mountains and be immersed into the Hutsul culture.

Experienced local guides will be on hand to help ensure your holiday runs smoothly and is full of wonderful and unique experiences. 

We advise on the best flights to travel to Ukraine, and arrange for you to be met at the airport.

Once you arrive in the Ukraine our tours include the cost of:

Detailed itinerary

On the Lizhnyk weaving and embroidery  tour you will:

Day 1
We will meet in Lviv before traveling to our rural craft destination together. We will stop in Ivano-Frankivsk for a quick lunch and stroll around the city. Then we travel to Kolomyia to visit the Museum of Hutsul Culture.  We will travel then to Kosiv to stay in family run guesthouse - our home for next 7 nights.


Day 2
A chance to really dig deep into this ancient craft with a visit to the local school of crafts. You will learn about the history of Lizhnyk weaving in the Carpathian Mountains and get hands on with the first of the weaving/ embroidery workshops. We also visit a local family of weavers and have a dinner with locals.
 
Day 3
Your second weaving/ embroidery workshop - an opportunity to learn and weave/ embroid your own project alongside local craftsmen. Later in the day we will visit the recreation project Berezivska Hata. Here you get to step back in time and walk through the hills to visit local shepherds before returning to experience a traditional Ukrainian home and  old ways of cooking as we prepare a traditional Ukrainian meal.
 
Day 4
There’s also a chance to really develop and hone your skills in the third weaving/embroidery workshop. After lunch  we will have our 4th workshop and then we visit a master embroider Bohdan Petrychuk in the village  Babyn where he will show his collection of antique Hutsul clothing from 19-20th century. 
 
Day 5
A day for something a bit different.  Today you will visit the oldest Hutsul church and pay a visit to the amazing Kosmach village. Here you will learn about the tradition of pysanky (egg decorating) and get a chance to try a completely different craft when you decorate your very own pysanky egg. We finish this lovely day with a local dinner.
 
Day 6
Time to finish off your very own traditional lizhnyk (Carpathian blanket) in the final weaving/ embroidery workshop of the trip. You then have the afternoon free to revisit favourite spots, and spend time admiring your handiwork before the evening dinner, where we enjoy a splendid goodbye party with our local hosts.
 
Day 7
Its market day in the morning! We will have a chance to visit one of the biggest textile markets in the area, where you can find weavers and embroiderers selling their beautiful creations. This place is a real inspiration! 

A change of place – travel to the beautiful city of Lviv for a completely different cultural shot in the arm. In the evening you will enjoy a wonderful dinner in one of Lviv’s unique and excellent restaurants.

Day 8
After a leisurely breakfast – you will meet with a local resident of Lviv who will take you on a magical walk around this city full of artists, history, and artisan coffee shops. Not a Starbucks in sight. We will then enjoy a final lunch together before helping you on your way to the airport for your journey home.
